It's been a long time since the last time i posted, but now, after a lot of thinking and douting, finally i will really chaotise my armour, as i explained when i presented myself in the English corner (http://www.horden-des-chaos.de/forum/english-corner/hi-from-catalonia!/). I will play a chaotic character, but i wont follow any of the four gods, i will follow alastor(it's from our larp group) a minor chaos god represented as a dragon, and wearing practicaly everything in green or black.

And more or les, thats the idea, for the moment i wont modify the green tunic, maybe with time i will ad golden details, the black one, will probably be replaced by something more elaborated whith the alastor dragon or a chaos star maybe even it could be sustitued with mail or scalemail, and i will add a sheep skin in my shoulders.

Practicaly all the golden details will be real metal(i dont know how is said the metal thats golden but it's not gold) only those that are flutes in the armour will be painted.

Everything is cold forged, 1mm for the stel, and 0,25mm for the golden metal(in the rest of the armour i will try 0,8 or something like that), it is my first armour piece and im really proud XD

I know that you leave drachenfest a pair of years ago, but if some of you are plannig to go, i'm trying to convince the "monguer lance"(an aliance of catalan groups that go to drachenfest) to try the chaos camp.

I didn't aked this couse i didnt think of it, but, how do you normally solve the problems with the horned helmets? i mean, i wont put real horn for safety(in catalonia we fight alot, and we fight hard, so, a horn thike the one on the foto will probably end in the eye of someone XD), the only option tha remains(i think, maybe there are others that i didnt know) is to make the with foam and latex, but with a rigid soul or not?(how the hell i make a curved soul?).
And if someone have a helmet like mine(bascinet) where do i put the horns to be able to move the visor? if it's in the sides like in the foto, i would be too up o too down, couse i have the pivot of the visor, and if i atach them to the fron of the visor, when i open the visor, the will point to the eyes of those allies that are in the second line.
Usually we use horns made of foam. We do them ourselfs, but in germany we have some talented artist so we also have a chance to buy great horns.
Do protect horns from beeing dragged of the helmet we use large magnets to attach the horns. just wrap the magnet into leather so it wont tear out. the foam wont be strong enough to hold the magnet, but if you stick the leather to the foam, its ok.
when someone hits youre helmet he wont destroy the horns, the horn will just fall apart and you can return it after combat. you could also make a small socket for the horn so it will look more naturally, like one piece.

Magnets is an option, but i would combine Magnet + a socket out of a firm material, so the horn stay in the right angle, but still go of if to much force is put against them.
For the visor Problem, just stay near or below the point where the Visor is fixed at the helmet.
I would take a small part out of the visor, and put the horn on the lower side.

if yours is similar to this one you dont even have to take a part out, just if the virsor, goes far back, and would colide with the horn base
It's an option to put the horns like that, but i like them more pointing up, it makes you taller, and more badass i think, but i dont find a way to put them permiting to move the visor and look cool.
The only way that convinces me is to atach them to the visor, but it will probably be ugly when i dont wear the visor down(normaly i don't put the visor, it limites to much the vision) so i'm douting...

Also the plume it looks beautifull, but i dont know if it woud be to impractical(i imagine the hair in my eyes.....), for the visor, it's not a real ploblem, i cant put it without interfering with the visor movement.
Maybe you could make the horns bigger, attach them at the point gryndal did in his painting and let them point up?
you could try to make a prototype with some hard paper, pizza boxes or something like that. just to see how it would fit and what size you need
I'm trying diferent options with my helm and a drinking horn, but none of them look good, if i put the horns in the helmet itself, it shoud be down the hinge, but with my helm that means practically the neck, and if i put them upside the hinge, they shoud be in the back to permit the articulation of the visor, and it dosent looks well.
For the moment i wont put horns(they can be added whenever i want), but if i put them, the only option is to put them in the visor).

The shop where I buy metal, ask me 260? for a sheet of brass(thats enough money to buy an armour!!!).......i will try to ask in more shops....but if this is the normal price, i will have to use another option, maybe golden leather, or try to find worbla.
From all these option, tho only one i think i would be capable of doing, is to add only a plume, I don't like helmets with one horn, every time i see one i think in unicorns....and that's no badass XD

Worbla is currently the favoured stuff for our people i think. Its pretty usefull for details. You should give it a try :)
After a week of visiting a lot of shops, I've finally found a sheet of 0,8mm of brass big enough to decorate all the armour(for what i found the 260? the fist shop said me was a lot more than the normal price XD) and real brass rivets(not the leather ones, those that are solid).
For painting the armour what's better, normal acrilics painted with brush, sprays...?

What kind of Armor you want to dye? Leather or Metal?
For the moment i will only paint metal, maybe with time i change que leather straps fon green ones, but for that i have tint made specificaly for that.
ok if you wanna paint on metal first rub the armor with some sandpaper.
for the paintjob iam not sure whats the english name for that kind of color... could it be a varnish?
i mean a sturdy dye for the prime color. The "Wash"effect (used look) we usually create with tinting. Regular colors you could also use to paint the walls of your appartement. Thats because you need to mix it with water and you need to rub it off with a sponge after it startet to dry. that wouldnt work with the varnish.
i hope you can follow me... if my english is to bad, maybe i could do a small tutorial video, but that would have to wait until may, when i come back to my workshop
It woudn't be nescessary a video, more or less I understand how it should be done, but I dont know what kind of paint are you talking about, for me, varnish is the transparent thing you aply after painting to protect it.
So you are talking about waterbased paints? alcohol base? something special for metals?
yes there is a transparent varnish, but there is also colored varnish. what type of paint do you use to paint a car? or paint a metal fence for your garden? isent that a colored varnish?
it should be a strong paint, i dont think its waterbased and you cant even mix it with water.
it should protect the armor from water.

iam not sure if they sell this outside of germany, but i used this for my first armor as prime color. the green had a pretty cool look.
Ok, more or less i know what shoud i look for, the problem was more of the translation;
Barniz(spanish, the transparent thing only)-varnish(something more general, mayby with the same base or something like that, i dont know)
And paint for cars, or fences in spanish it's "esmaltes"(i dont know if it have a translation)

It's been a long time since the last time I post, and it's a shame but since the last time I posted I've done nothing to my costume.....but it doesn't mean i've done nothing at all, becouse 5 and 6 of april, my clan organized our first event, Legends of Alastor: beers tournament, and i ended doing a lot of atrezzo, like tombstones, or and altar to our god. We ended buying tunics and kuklux klan hoods for our chaos sect, 6 tunics like mine and ten hoods, the bad news is that a have no fotos of any of the sectaries beacuse they attaked the "village" at the night and the photographer was busy helping at the tavern.
I've waited some time to post this, hopping to have fotos of the finished atrezzo, but 3 weeks later i still havent fotos of thinks like the altar or the tombstone of the chaos champion(it was something like balin's tomb in lord of the rings).
We've got a lot of work to organize the event, but it worth it, it was bigger than wat we spected, we got something like 80 players, 10 NPCs and 10 organizers...yes, this in germany woud be a little event but in spain the haven't been anithing with more than 150-200 players.

Anybody knows how to age mail?(its coted in zinc)
there a two "easy" ways.
First is painting, so give it a weathered effekt with washes and small details.
Tabletopplayers have a lot of tips regarding this.
Second is removing the coating, and spray it with saltwater and vinegar.
After its rusting, remove the rust partly
Use the vinegar, paint always comes off due to the movement of the chainmail.
I heard about people using cheap red wine to give it some kind of tan.
Can`t confirm this effect personally, though.

A bit late, but finally I have a chaos armour! I've been waiting last 3 weeks for good fotos of Clan Wars(hopping they have a good photo of me in my armour, but the waiting can be eternal...it took them almost 1 year for last year Clan Wars...) So here you have some bad quality photos.....
It isn't finished yet, still need work in some pieces, i want to add more details, want to built more armour, want to change pieces, need a lot of work with clothes....but for me it begis to look good.

A lot has happened since the last time I pass by this forum, and finally looks like things are starting to work.
I have an armor that despite not being even 50% complete, people loves so much that many are beginning to "chaotice" their gear. We are organizing various groups to go all over and hopefully for next summer in clan wars (the biggest event of Catalonia) we will see a whole side dressed properly as chaos!
The orga Gave us a whole new camp, with nice looking gates, we still have to work hard to decorate along with banners, trophies, siege weapon ... but it's a very good start.

I have convinced most of my clan to buy or make a equipment similar to mine, so we now have light equipment of followers of chaos (long robe with hood, pointed hood (kuklux klan style), sheep skin cape .... )
Also, last drachenfest halve of the catalans joined the chaos camp as fallen templars, and we plan to be there another time this year with more people and better outfits(I did all my templar gear in the bus and once there...).

And now, talking about how I have my costume: I rethought everything I had planned because I now work at a larp workshop (prop corn (https://www.facebook.com/PropCorn?fref=ts)) and I can do things that previously seemed impossible to me.
Since the last time I posted I've hardly advanced in costume,becouse during the summer we haven't stopped at the store, but if all goes well, after christmas i will get to it.
And finally I leave a couple of pictures of my armor like it's now (forget the googles, I put them on for a steampunk event with other ornaments just not seen in photo). And all the new designs for my PJ, I've also planed on building new metal armour for the legs, bigger than the current ones, more in the style of warhammer space marines.

I'm planning on doing a new belt with new sheaths and bags, all made with the same scheme, green with details in gold. it includes all I need; holy book, axe sheath, a bag, a scroll case for carrying water, a sword sheath(maybe I need to rethink it, because I'm planning on buying the "dark angel sword" from calimacil(http://www.calimacil.com/baz247.html).

The belt itself will be maybe 10cm width, all carved with letters in gold. in the middle it will have a "chapel" three arches with three angels, I drawn it a little too small, the size will be halfway between the image and what the guy in the right is wearing. Also I will put something hanged with chains, maybe an incense burner. And finally, a dagger sheath.

The banner itself, I have no idea how to do it...but I will do it! It will be as big as it can be without weighting to much, the ideal will be a 1mx60cm banner or something like that.

even if you had a lot of scratches allover your armor it looks to clean!
Maybe you like to use waterbased tinting-colour "Abtönfarbe" ontop of your green paint colour. Just apply the tinting-colour all over the surface and wait a minute until its starts to dry ... than clean the surface with a cotton cloth. with these technique the surface details are highlighted and it looks naturaly used.

A quick question, how do I age robes? I'm hitting it with a stone, but it stil need some mud and dirt color(i want to be able to clean the robes without loosing all the paint work)
For dirt and mud effects use thined tinting paint or shoepolish.
